The Zeil is a mile long pedestrian zone and is the major high-street in downtown Frankfurt.
It is both Frankfurt and Germany’s busiest shopping street.
Zeil has the most well-known department store chains and many specialized shops, offering an extensive range of goods, and something for everyone, from ladies and men’s fashion, to children’s wear, even including children’s shoes.
Some of the large stores at the Zeil are the famous ‘Galeria Kaufhof’, ‘Karstadt’, ‘Peek&Cloppenburg’, ‘Deichmann’, ‘Zara’, ‘New Yorker’, ‘H&M’ and Europe’s largest beauty store, ‘Douglas’. ‘Primark’ has recently opened up on Zeil.
Zeil can attracts half a million visitors per day and has the highest retail turnover in Europe, so expect to see a vibrant shop front displays and the latest in fashion. Shoppers come from Frankfurt, around Frankfurt, Hessen (the state), Germany, Europe, and from all over the world as they visit.
If you’re after a view, Galleria Kuafhof and the Zeilgalerie both have rooftop terraces, complete with cafes and restaurants.
As Zeil is in the middle of Frankfurt it is easy to get to by all public transport.
If you’re shopping in Zeil and you want to explore more, near Hauptwache you can turn south to the old parts of Frankfurt.
While there are numerous Cafés on Zeil, there are more cafes and restaurants in the side streets.
If you’re at Zeil on Saturday or Thursday, at the eastern end you’ll find the Konstablerwache Markets; fresh local food at decent prices.
